You ever sat down and read this thing? Technically, we’re not allowed to go to the bathroom.

Yesterday I was reminded why I hate Best Buy so much.

About a year and a half ago, I bought a cheap laptop from them (VERY CHEAP), actually a VERY, VERY cheap laptop from them.  And I got it on sale, so it was almost ridiculously cheap.  I also paid the $70 for the 2 year standard service plan and I swear it has been the best $70 ever spent.  Within the first 6 months of owning it, I had to replace the motherboard (which apparently is an $800 repair job…which was more than I even spent on the laptop).

Right before Thanksgiving, my computer started randomly turning off and the battery wouldn’t hold a charge.  And it was just really annoying.  So…I took it back again.

Apparently, it’s so messed up they just approved it to be thrown out and I can get a replacement laptop of equal or lesser value.  But, since my laptop was so ridiculously cheap, they obviously did not have another laptop in the store at the same price point.

They had one laptop that was a little more and I said I would just pay the difference and get the nicer laptop.  But, I was told I wasn’t allowed to do that at the service desk (even thought they have TWENTY registers there), instead, I could take a store credit, go back to the computer department and find someone back there to help me, then I could go stand in line again at the register and re-buy a laptop.

This seemed kind of ridiculous especially since I would be spending MORE money than the original one was worth so I said screw it.  I went and bought a cheaper netbook (it’s not like I need the laptop to do anything other than go online at home) and a new mp3 player and the 2 year service agreement thing and spent almost exactly what my store credit was worth.

Go me.

I bought a returned mp3 player that had the “inspected by best buy” tape all over it (it was the only one they had and I really wanted THAT kind).  Ugh.  I get home and I pull it out…and it has no USB cord.

So I went back to Best Buy (but a different one this time) and proceeded to stand in line for another 20 minutes with the SLOWEST customer service person ever helping.  She acted like I was lying about the cord being missing so that I could get a free cord, but whatever.  I got my new mp3 player eventually and now I’m happy.

However, I spent about 4 hours in Best Buy yesterday and only bought 2 things.  That’s ridiculous.

I also bought a small Christmas tree (it had to fit in my back seat so it’s only about 5 feet tall plus one random long branch that sticks up about a food on top).

Should get decorated tonight.  :-)

Then hopefully, I can finish a few of my Christmas gifts since I have less than 10 days left.  Where did all the time go?????  I’m so not ready for Christmas this year!

  1. I’m starting to not like Best Buy either. I paid $50 for a DVD set for my brother for Christmas ($50 is our limit and he is impossible to buy for), and now I see the same set on Amazon for $35 and free shipping. Argh. Part of me wants to just leave it, but the other part of me wants to get him a $15 gift too so everything is square.

Best Buy also once told me to buy a certain outlet adapter for my trip to London, and after I plugged in my curling iron into it, it started on fire. That was nice.
